24. Humbug #3: File Copy (Oct 1957)

"Humbug was about an inch shorter than a comic book and was printed in two colors on comic-book equipment. First mistake: the size. When they put it on the magazine rack it would fall down between everything! Nobody ever got to see it!"

-Harvey Kurtzman, The Comics Journal, 1981

"We didn't have any money and we tried to go by our own guts. I designed a format that would be incredibly cheap to reproduce, so we turned out this incredible magazine which had the most beautiful artwork we'd ever done, the most carefully crafted stories and layouts, and we printed the whole thing on toilet paper! A terrible mistake! The format was a disaster. It was a small magazine - have you ever seen a copy?"
-Harvey Kurtzman, The Comics Journal, 1981
