"If the business was respectable, it would attract creative people of quality - art-wise and writing-wise: simple as that. I've had the experience where cartooning was an exciting place to be, and the talent just comes out from under the rocks. The potential is there. I know it's there, because I teach at the School of Visual Arts; year after year these kids come through, and every year there are three or four guys who are really good, but they don't hang around. They go into other things, because they're ultimately disappointed by the logistics, the economics of comic books."
