31. Humbug Xmas Wrapping Paper (Dec 1957)

"I was born in Brooklyn, but moved to the Bronx and then Manhattan. I was strictly New York all the way: Music and Art High School, Cooper Union Art School. Music and Art High, incidentally, was quite a place in the sense that so many of the guys I work with today came out of there. Willie Elder, Harry Chester who's been my production man throughout, Ed Fisher - Al Jaffee was Music and Art, too - many of the people I was going to work with. That was our original meeting place and then we went out into the war and we got together again after the war. And we found it was no accident. I found it was no accident. I think you'll find in the various professions and arts, people tend to come from common neighborhoods and groupings and places. Like, you know, the comedians from the lower east side of Manhattan."

-Harvey Kurtzman, Rogue Magazine, Dec 1965
